Custom Leather Goods

Custom means just that.  All items are made to your specifications.  Prices shown on the following pages are for the way that particular item was made.  If your specifications vary from those of the item shown, the price could conceivably change.  For that reason, all orders are treated as tentative and work will not begin until you have agreed to the way I understand your specifications and the price.  Browse through the Products page to see some of the items I have made recently.

If you ever have any questions about any of the items on the Products page or about anything you might be looking for, please contact me.

Personalized Items

Items that are personalized with names, initials or other marks identifying a particular person or entity, require a 50% deposit before any work can begin.

Pricing

All prices are in US Dollars and are negotiated separately for each item.

At this time we cannot accept payment by credit card, but a new version of this site is being developed that will allow payment by credit card or PayPal.  As yet, there is no roll-out date, but as soon as one has been established, it will be published here.  In the meantime, we can only accept payment by means of deposits to our bank account.  We have accounts in both the US and Peru.

Shipping

All items are shipped via SERPOST Priority Mail from Chaclacayo, Lima, Peru.  This means that shipping to the United States is considerably more expensive.  However, leather costs less which, in most cases, more than compensates for it and most items cost less than they would if ordered from the United States.

Current shipping charges for a Priority Mail box weighing up to 1 Kg. (2.2 lbs.) is $37.23 to anywhere in the US.  A medium-sized handbag weighs from 600 to 700 grams (1.3 to 1.5 lbs.).

Transit time to US destinations can be anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks, but most things arrive in about a week.

Products

The only products I had a lot of pictures of which were suitable for showing on this website were of some handbags/purses and billfolds/wallets I have made.  These are not the only things I make.  If you are looking for something that you don't see pictured here, please don't hesitate to ask for it.  Even if it's something I don't make (like a saddle), I have lots of contact with other leathercrafters through the guild and can probably find you at least one who can give you what you're looking for.  Some of the items I've made recently are listed on the Products page.

About Me

I began doing leathercraft when I was a teenager just out of high school and I worked at it as a hobby for about fifteen years.  After I graduated from college, I started working as a mainframe computer programmer and eventually started my own consultancy.  As a result, I had no time for any kind of hobby and the leather work got relegated to a closet somewhere. I don't even know what happened to my tools, but they were somehow lost during that time.

After I retired, the missus and I moved to Peru, where she was born, and next year we'll have been here for ten years.  Having lots of free time on my hands, I decided to take up my old hobby again.  It wasn't an easy undertaking because the tools necessary for carving leather just are not available in Peru and even those for the many other tasks in leathercraft are quite primitive.  It took a long time and lots of money to acquire everything I needed... and I still find that I need something I don't have with almost every new project.

I started out just making gifts for all my grandchildren and other family members, but it seems that each gift prompted inquiries from other people, so I decided to put up this site so that anyone interested can get a better idea of  what things I have done.  Even if something isn't listed here doesn't mean I can't make it, and even if I can't make it, I can probably recommend someone who can, so don't hesitate to ask for whatever you might want.
